Help Planning for Your Family Photo Session
I have been working on getting all the what to wear guides up and running and I have finally finished the family photo session what to wear guide! Hooray!
I get a lot of questions about what to wear. I don’t believe there is a standard response to this question. Everyone is different and every family is different.
What I will say is that less tends to be more. So less patterns, less accessories, and less things all around. Having less in the photo tends to help the viewer focus on the people in the image.
It also gives the people being photographed less to worry about. You don’t have to worry if your necklace pendant is sideways or backwards, you don’t have to worry your kid is going to yank out your earrings. So that you can be more present, and be more you.
Now, it depends on the family, because some families are really bright colorful families with tons of colorful clothes and hair. This can work, but, it is best to coordinate so that they do not clash. You can do colorfully coordinated and it can be amazing!
The easier route is to go more neutral with pops of color. Some of my more successful shoots have been with families who dressed in fairly neutral colors and then dressed the kids in more colorful clothes and added pops of these colors to their outfits. This is a nice way to match without being overly matchy.
So check out my What to Wear Guide. It has some awesome tips on how to dress for your body type and skin tone. Take it all with a grain of salt, some rules are meant to be broken. I hope it helps you plan for your shoot.
